My name is Pat, and I recently celebrated my 81st birthday. I have struggled with digestion complications most of my adult life – just like my mother did. Over the years, I tried many over-the-counter and prescription remedies to try and control my problem, but they were only a temporary fix at best.
Then I met Kari, and she explained that she had a solution that would solve the root cause of my digestion complications, not just manage symptoms. She said the key was to heal my gut by reducing or eliminating inflammation by eating foods specific to my immune system. Kari called it the MRT/LEAP program; MRT® is the Mediator Release Test and LEAP stands for Lifestyle Eating and Performance which is the nutrition coaching part of the program.
After discussing my health with Kari, and hearing about the success of others that have been through her program, I realized I was ready to try something different. It began with the MRT® which is a blood test that identified my food and food chemical sensitivities. When the results came back, Kari created a detailed and personal daily eating plan for me specific to my immune system. After a few days on a few specific foods, I began adding a new food every day for the next few weeks.
I was excited to begin my new adventure with food! It wasn’t easy at first to make such a big change, but in other ways I enjoyed the challenge. Keeping a food diary was an important part of being aware throughout the journey. I didn’t really think of it as a diet because it was really all about learning how food affects the whole body. I never thought about my stomach problems having such a strong emotional connection, but then I thought about how frustrated I would get when the symptoms would return.
Within just a few days, I had nearly complete relief of symptoms. Over time, my health improved even more and I no longer had digestions complications. I learned through the food introduction process which foods were causing me problems and which foods were safe. It was a bonus when I lost 5 lbs in the first 10 days, and a total of 10 lbs all together. It feels great!
It’s been nearly a year since I started this program, and have learned several things about myself and my eating habits. I don’t put things into my mouth mindlessly anymore. I read labels and avoid packaged foods. I can still eat out on occasion because I know how to choose foods that work for me. My husband has benefited from these changes too because I prepare foods that are better for both of us. I am so glad I took the “LEAP”!
